UPDATE: April 3, 2019
Our brick and mortar store is now permanently closed, however we will continue to fulfill online orders while supplies last.
After much prayer, and in obedience to the Holy Spirit, who has directed us since the inception of St. Benedict's, we regret to inform you all that we will not be reopening the store. When this mission began back in 2012, we knew that we would be here exactly as long as God wanted, not one day or hour more.
Many of you know that we’ve been through a tremendous trial dealing with the sexual abuse that my wife, Stephanie, suffered as a teen at the hands of a priest in the Diocese of Buffalo, along with the subsequent battle with Bishop Malone and all of the other corrupt figures representing the Diocese of Buffalo last year. This has all played out in regional and national news and, unfortunately, this chapter is not yet closed as investigations by the Attorney General & FBI continue.
The Catholic community as a whole is reeling from the scandal brought upon us by wolves in sheep’s clothing, but for us, this is way too close to home. As the Diocese of Charleston, where we now live and operate from, begins its own chapter with this issue, we’re already seeing the same pattern of minimization and denial, which leads people to doubt victims, essentially re-victimizing us all.
With all of this on our shoulders, we feel that there is no way for us to continue our mission at St. Benedict’s. At this point, we’re so wounded ourselves that we can no longer be the support that we have been to those who are seeking information and answers about the Church.
We are thankful to every one of you for all of your prayers and support through the years, and especially through this current, seemingly, never-ending trial. It is for you that we began this mission and worked so hard at it all this time, and now we must stop and move forward to whatever it is that God has planned for us.
There comes a time when a soldier is so wounded in battle that he must retreat from the front line. God is simply asking us to remove ourselves from the direct line of fire. This is not a decision that has been made lightly. We cherish all of the time and memories made with all of you over all the years.
Thank you again and may God continue to bless you all.
"Ask Jesus what he wants from you and be brave!"
In the summer of 2012, while we were still scrambling our way fully back into the Church, God challenged us by asking us to open a Catholic store right smack in the middle of the bible belt. He didn't choose us because we were the smartest people he could find, but because we were just crazy and damaged enough to say "yes, Lord!" We had been attending daily Mass and asking Him to clearly help us discern exactly what He wanted us to do with our lives.
We had asked Jesus what he wanted. Now we had to be brave. But, we were not brave. We were terrified and wanted to say no. Instead, we prayed for courage, opened St. Benedict's Catholic Store and began our mission from scratch. Operating a business for God is quite different from a secular venture. We didn't know where to begin, what to order, or where to order it. Thankfully, God had those answers and gave them to us on a need-to-know basis.
Since October 2012, we have developed a large Facebook fan base and gained tremendous community support. We've been dubbed "the Southeast's Most Extraordinary Catholic Store", not only for our commitment to quality over quantity and our dedication to carrying solid traditional Catholic items and magesterium approved books, but also because we have naturally evolved into being a sort of Catholic welcome center, from which we are able to evangelize and lead people to the Church. We are also dedicated to helping those who are financially unable to obtain the Catholic books and resources they need. We're here to help.
As we continued to grow in our mission, many of our long-distance fans had expressed interest in being able to shop online. So with that in mind, we created this simple web shop to meet that need and have been very pleased with the loyal support of you, our online customers.
We're here for you. We're here because of you!
Thank you for visiting our site.
